Teaching Experience

Teaching Assistant, Ball State University, 2014 – Present    Muncie, IN

ENG 213: Introduction to Digital Literacies – This course helps students hone their digital literacies and think critically about the evolution of digital literacies. In doing so, students develop an understanding of the public aspects of digital literacies and digital writing as well as the circulation of information, remix culture, and the connection between the digital and physical. To that end, students analyze digital multimodal texts and create their own digital multimodal projects, which include but are not limited to videos, e-books, podcasts, and alternate reality games.

ENG 104: Composition Research – This course develops students research skills. This requires students to analyze and incorporate primary and secondary sources as well as learn how to present their research in both textual essays and multimodal projects. The course is designed to use sequence and scaffolding through a variety of of assignments, such as profiles, proposals, annotated bibliographies, argumentative essays, podcasts, awareness campaigns, and research portfolios. Given this sequence, students are then able to see how information moves from text to text and from personal to public.

ENG 103: Rhetoric and Writing – This course helps students understand and use rhetorical strategies and concepts to create an argument, write in multiple genres, and develop multimodal texts. In doing so, students learn to analyze their own writing process and writing style, develop their perceptions of writing, and write for both academic and non-academic audiences. This course also works to cultivate a protopublic classroom wherein students learn about audience awareness and the dynamic nature of writing in various, and often overlapping, publics.

Teaching Assistant, University of Toledo  2012 – 2014   Toledo, OH

ENGL 111: College Composition I – This course helps students learn to write for different genres, research and analyze primary and secondary sources, and develop persuasive arguments. This course is designed to give students an in-depth experience in writing and research, both inside and outside the classroom. To do this, students participate in activities such as conducting informal and formal interviews with members of the university and the community, write personal memoirs, and create action plans for projects they would like to see implemented around the university.
